How To Add Google Analytics

Tracking how many people actually visit your website is vitally important for any webmaster no matter if you are new to running a website or if you are a veteran webmaster.

Google provides a free online tool called “Google Analytics” that can track your website visitors and help you to develop a successful online business. If you don’t already have a Google account you will need to sign up to gain access to this free service.

Please Visit - http://www.google.com/analytics/

Step 1 Creating a Google account

When you arrive at the Google Analytics home page (link above) you will need to sign up for a new account.

To sign up for your free account, click on the text “Sign up Now” located at the bottom of the small blue box.

This will take you to a short form requesting a handful of details in order to get you started.

Upon completion of this form Google will send you a verification email. You need to click on the link contained in the email in order to activate your account.

Step 2 Accessing your Google account for the first time

Once your account has been verified by clicking on the link contained in Google’s email, you will be able to access your account.

When you login to Google Analytics for the first time you will see a section titled “Sign Up For Google Analytics.”

You need to click on the button titled “Signup.”

This will then take you to a series of questions about your website.

Website URL
This is your website's domain name. Leave the option “http://” selected and type your domain into the box opposite.
Account Name
This allows you to give your account a name, helping you to organise your accounts should you wish to monitor more than one website.
Country
Select your country. Most of our clients will select “United Kingdom.”
Time Zone
This will automatically complete the correct data once you have selected your country.
When all of the above sections have been completed click “Continue” to proceed. The next screen will ask for some general contact information. Complete the fields before clicking "Continue" to proceed. Before Google will allow you to access their analytic software you must agree to their terms and conditions by clicking the button “Create New Account.”

Step 3 Analytics: Tracking Instructions

The next screen presented by Google will contain information that you need to copy and paste into your your CMS site settings.

Make sure you copy all of the code and then paste the code into your Google Analytic input field in your site settings.

Finally, click “Update” and Sites Republic will look after everything else.

To access your data and traffic statistics you will need to login to your Google Analytic account.

Data will start showing 24 hours after you have added the code above to your CMS.

How To Upload A Banner Or Logo

Banner

This page allows you to upload new banners directly from your computer screen into your website.

If you upload just one banner, your site will simply display this banner permanently. However, if you upload more than one banner your site will rotate the banners with a soft fading effect. To see the fading effect please visit

http://www.carpetfittingshropshire.co.uk.

Banner Size

Your website has been developed to display a banner with the width and height displayed near the uploading form. If you upload a banner image that is not this size, our website will stretch or shrink your uploaded image to fit the given space.

The results from this stretching might not look very good and for this reason we recommend that you upload the correct sizes.

  1. Learn how to create a correctly sized banner (Click Here)
  2. Create a better banner without expensive software (Click Here)
  3. If you don’t have the time, we can develop three banners for £40.00 (Click Here)

Adding a New Banner

Adding a new banner is simple and will only take you a few moments once you have the banner on your own computer.

The first step is to locate the banner on your computer; this is achieved by either clicking into the blank input box or clicking on the button labelled “Browse.”

This will then open a standard computer window allowing you to locate the correct banner on your computer’s hard drive. Once located you simply click the “Open” button to be brought back to your CMS screen.

Your CMS then allows you to input a link. This link will take a website visitor from the current page to the page your link points to.

For example, if you are currently running a special offer then you might wish to display a banner that attracts the attention of website visitors. However, you might feel the need to explain the offer in more detail so you would create a page in “Add and Edit Pages” that explains the offer to your readers. This page would then be given a unique web site address (URL); this address would be used as the banner link taking the reader from one page to the other by one simple click.

You will need to enter (or copy and paste) the whole web site address including the http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/myoffer.

If you do not wish to have a link, then don’t worry - just leave this field blank.

Once you are happy that you have selected the correct banner and the link is correct (if you want to use one) then simply click on the “Add Banner Button” and your CMS will look after the rest.

Current Banners

Once you have uploaded a banner you might want to control the order in which the banners are shown, or you may want simply to remove the banner. To do either, you need to open the “Current Banner” table.

Your table will display the current banners that are displayed on your website. The table below is an example of how it should look.

Banner Ordering

Banners are displayed in order. The display order is taken from the order shown in the table, with the top banner in the sequence being the first banner in the list and the bottom banner being the last.

New banners added to this table will automatically be placed at the bottom of the table. However, moving your banners is as simple as one click.

Opposite each banner you are given a simple control system to move the banner up or down.

To move the banner up you simply click on the up arrow and repeat this process until the banner is in the correct position. To move the banner down, click on the down arrow and do likewise.

Important: once you have moved the banners into the correct order you will need to confirm that the order is correct by clicking on the “Save Order” button. Failing to do this final step will simply revert the banners back to their original position.

Deleting a Banner

Deleting a banner is simple and only requires 2 clicks of your mouse. First we need to confirm to the CMS which banner is going to be deleted and to do this we need to tick the small square to the left of the selected banner.

If you wish to delete more than one you will need to tick their boxes as well.

Finally, to confirm that we wish to delete the banners we simply need to click the button labelled “Delete Selected Banners.”

Adding a New Company Logo

Adding a new company logo to your website is a quick and easy process. Before starting this process you must have your logo on your own computer ready to upload to your website.

Your first step is to locate the logo that you would like your CMS to upload to your website. This is done by either clicking into the blank input box or clicking on the “Browse” button, which will the open a standard computer window allowing you to browse your local computer for the correct image.

When you have located the image on your own computer simply click “open” to return to the CMS.

Once you are happy you have located the correct logo you will need to click the button “Upload New Logo” and our system will look after everything else.

  1. Would you like our design team to tweak your current logo for £20.00? (Click Here)
  2. If you don’t have the time, we can develop a new logo for £50.00 (Click Here)

Deleting Current Logo

You can do this either by uploading a new logo which will automatically remove the old logo, or by clicking the “remove logo” button to the right of the current logo.

How To Enter Meta Details For A Page

Meta

With more and more business going online to win new customers it is vitally important to ensure your company ticks all of the boxes when it comes to search engines.

Search engines read and index web pages similar to a human, the content that you place on a page is scanned by the search engines and from this your webpage is categorised, for example a “Plumber” or a “Butcher”.

Within your sites code there are several key area’s to highlight targeted information helping search engines index you correctly.

A) Enter a Heading For This Page

Although this is not really connected to Meta information it is still important to ensure the name you give to your page heading matches the content that will reside on the page.

Your page heading is used in both your page creation and the label given to your page on your navigation.

Try to make the titles short but descriptive, for example...

Contact Us
About Us
Special Offers
Services
Carpet Fitting

B) Auto Generate Page Title

This is one of the most important sections of your website when trying to increase your online exposure.

As default this option is ticked and your CMS will simply copy your Page Heading in order to create your page title.

We would advise that each page title is created individually by deselecting the tick; this will then display a new input box allowing you to enter targeted keywords.

Your Page title is a small section of text that appears in the top left corner of your browser window, as shown below... (the area highlighted in Yellow)

This area should explain to humans and browsers in as few words as possible what your page is about, for example

A plumber’s home page might use the text “Plumber in Shrewsbury” or even “Plumber in Shropshire”

Take a few minutes looking at other companies that sit on page 1 of Google and see what words they have used; this will give you a good idea.

Remember, try to keep it short and descriptive, many companies cram this section full of wording and destroy a good opportunity to win search engine favour.

C) Auto Generate Page Description

As default this option is selected to automatically generate your page description. If left selected your CMS will simply take the 1st 100 characters that appear within your content and create the description based on this information.

Page description only shows in your code and not on your webpage.

Page description is another great place to reinforce your websites indexing within search engines and we would recommend that you create your description for each page.

To create your own Page Description please deselect the option to automatically generate the page description. Once deselected your CMS should display a new input field.

You should think about the content that will reside on this page and type a description that summarises the page for the human reader. Make sure that the wording used will match possible search terms used every day by potential customers.

For example, on the Boiler Service page of a plumber’s website you might input...

For all of your Boiler Servicing in Shrewsbury, Boiler Brothers can help with yearly servicing plans or emergency call outs. We specialise in same day fix’s helping our clients out when it really matters. No Call Out Charge, No Fix No Fee.

D)Enter Your Page keywords

Keywords play an important role helping search engines index your site correctly. Keywords are simply words that you would associate with your websites page and the type of search someone would enter in order to find a business similar to your own.

Take a few minutes to consider what you would type into search engines to find a business such as your own.... Ask friends and family to get an unbiased perspective.

Helpful Tips:

  1. Keywords can also be phrases, more than 1 word.
  2. Only enter keywords that target the pages content, do not enter keywords that simply target your whole company.
  3. When entering the keywords (or Phrases) you need to separate them with a comma (,) this indicates separate keywords or phrases.
  4. Please don’t fall into the normal trap of entering 100’s of words or phrases as this will lower the effectiveness when search engines index you.

Take a minute to look at our example below ... this example is based on a website page titled “Boiler Servicing” for a local plumbing company.

Boiler Serving in Shrewsbury, Emergency Boiler Repairs in Shrewsbury, Cheap Boiler Servicing in Shrewsbury, Landlord Boiler Servicing in Shrewsbury, Out of hour emergency boiler service in Shrewsbury

Once you are happy each section has been completed correctly simply click the save button and your CMS will do the rest.

Manage Images On Pages

Manage Images

Images play a vital role when trying to win favour with website visitors. Your text can be brought to life with images that impact and enhance the content.

When uploading images it is recommended that your images should be selected for their appropriateness to the content and not simply for the sake of adding images.

Important Notice
Be sure that the images you upload to your website are not protected by any copyright, this can cause allot of issues legally so we would always recommend that you use pictures that you have taken, be given permission to use or purchased from web sites such as www.istockphoto.com

Image Specification

This section of the CMS allows you to display 3 images in 3 predefined locations of the page. Each of the 3 predefined locations offer you the ability to display your images, however due to each location having a permanent size and location, uploading images without the correct specification will force the site to display them incorrectly.

As you can see from the 3 images above only 1 of the images is displayed correctly, this is simply due to the size of the original image.

Your CMS will shrink the original image to fit the space given however due to the CMS forcing Aspect Ratio this means that the image must be the correct shape in the beginning.

Number 1.
As you can see above this image almost fits the box however the border around the edge has been increased to cater for the Gap.
Number 2.
This image fits the box perfectly, and should be the same for your own images.
Number 3.
This image really looks bad due to the original shape of the image.

The actual space that your images are shown on your web site will be 175 Pixels x 134 pixels as shown in section (A) below. The image size is not the main area of concern, for example an image the size of shape B below will also fit correctly as both shapes are of the same aspect ratio.

Judging this by eye should be more than enough, imagine the smaller picture (A) being stretched with the height and length growing at the same rate, this should give you an idea of the shape your original image needs to be to ensure the best results.

Adding Images

Adding a new image is simple and will only take you a few moments once you have the image on your own computer.

The first step is to locate the image on your computer; this is achieved by either clicking into the blank input box or clicking on the button labelled “Browse”

This will then open a standard computer window allowing you to locate the correct banner on your computer’s hard drive, once located you will simply click the “Open” button to be brought back to your CMS screen.

Adding a Description

Once you have located your image the CMS allows you to input a description, this description will be used as a TAG.

A Tag allows you to identify what the image is about helping search engines index the image correctly. Without the Tag your images would remain a mystery to search engines and you have lost a small opportunity to increase your sites indexing.

When you are happy with your image and description simply click

Manage Images

Your images are displayed on your main website in order, this order is taken from the order that they are shown in the table, with the top image being the 1st image displayed and the bottom image being the last image.

New images added to this table will automatically be placed at the bottom of the table; however moving your images is as simple as 1 click.

Opposite each image you are given a simple control system helping to move the image up or down.

To move the image up you simply click on the up arrow repeat this process until the image is in the correct position, moving the image down uses the same process however this time you will click on the down arrow

Important – Once you have moved the images into the correct order you will need to confirm that the order is correct by clicking on the “Save Order” button, failing to do this final step will simply revert the images back to their original position.

Deleting an image.

Deleting a image is simple and only requires 2 clicks of your mouse, first we need to confirm to the CMS which image is going to be deleted and to do this we need to tick the small square to the left of the selected image this will pace a small tick in the box indicating that the image to the right is the correct image.

If you wish to delete more than 1 you will need to tick the other boxes as detailed above.

Finally to confirm that we wish to delete the images we simply need to click the button Labelled “Delete Selected Images".
